You can track your progress by going to www.sparkpeople.com - this isn't spam! I've been using this website for about a year and my mom also recommends it to people. She's a personal trainer. Obviously this site wont help you lose weight but it will help you to make better food choices and help you track your exercise!

Find out your basal metabolic rate and how many calories a day you burn exercising. Add those two together and eat less calories than the total. ~3000 Calories = 1 Pound

If your willing and have some cash I recommend P90X it is very useful to get fit. Me and my sister are doing the program and she has lost about 10 lbs so far! We are about 3 weeks into the program. I'm 18 and she is 20.

Regular exercise, ideally at least 30 mins in duration.
Eat healthy, and only until you just barely do not feel hungry - never eat to the point of being stuffed. When you feel hungry between meals, go drink some water instead - a lot of times, the brain mistakenly sends hunger signals when the body is dehydrated. And remember, you are supposed to be hungry between meals.
If calories consummed is greater than calories burned, then it gets stored as fat. Fatty, fried foods have more calories per weight of food - and fatty foods taste better, so people tend to overconsume them - so avoid.

The only way to lose weight is to eat less calories than your body burns. So either eat less or exercise more, or do both.

I'd be careful if I were you though. Teenage years are a really important time for your body. I would recommend following the food pyramid, and then just try to be more active. I really recommend dancing and yoga. Dancing is a great aerobic activity that is actually a lot of fun, and yoga will help you build long, lean muscles (which are the kind that look best on women.) Be careful that you don't starve yourself, and don't over do it on the activity either. If you hurt yourself you aren't going to want to do any exercises and that just wouldn't be good.
I used yoga to lose the baby weight from my second child. I gained almost 60 lbs. during my pregnancy, and I lost 40 lbs. in 6 months by doing yoga everyday and just eating sensibly. I tried to make smart choices when I ate, for example if I was munchie while I was watching TV I would grab some tortilla chips and salsa instead of something like Doritos or potato chips. If I was craving sweets I ate fruit instead of candy. I also drink a lot of water.

I'm a guy and for years I was slightly pudgy, I started paying attention to calories, not really counting, just paying attention, and that helped immensely. You are almost as tall as me so our caloric needs are probably similar, and I tried to stay below 2000 calories per day.

I cut out soft drinks which helped out a lot. Food is gasoline, but our bodies unfortunately lack a fuel gage.

For instance: A McDonald's Double cheeseburger has between 400-500 calories which means if you eat 2 of them you've already had about HALF the food you can allow yourself that day, and that's almost their smallest burger.

I use McDonald's as an example because they have nutrition information on the back of their paper tray covers last time i looked.

It also wouldn't hurt to put on a little extra muscle, because the more lean muscle you put on the more calories you burn doing everyday activities.
